Golfing in Cape Girardeau for wounded warriors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Helping our veterans while braving the heat!

Thirty-two teams of golfers sweated it out at the Cape Girardeau County Club to raise money for wounded warriors. Many players on Friday were active and retired military.

This fundraising golf tournament's a great example of this weekend's two big headlines, Memorial Day festivities and our summer-like temperatures.

"There is a lot of us, myself included, we've been immobilized or knew someone who didn't get to come home, or injured," said Steve Rhodes, Iraq War Veteran. "There's just a really special meaning to this golf tournament."

Organizers hope to raise around $12,000 for the Wounded Soldiers' Foundation.

"It goes to soldiers who have been wounded in Afghanistan or Iraq," said Organizer Summer Riney. "And the first hospital they go to is Landstuhl, Germany.  That is where all the funds go to."
