Cape man pleads guilty to having gun, being a previously convicted felon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that a Cape Girardeau man pleaded guilty in front of U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr.

Michael G. O'Neal pleaded guilty to one count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a gun.

The attorney's office says on May 15, officers responded at 12:15 a.m. to a call of shots fired at 134 South Lorimier in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Officers say they encountered O'Neal who was yelling from his second floor apartment at 136 S. Lorimier. They say were unable to find out were the shots came from, so they returned to patrol.

At 12:35 a.m. officers say they heard shots again and responded to the area.

Rte. 74 reduced for bridge repairs

Rte. 74 reduced for bridge repairs

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says east and westbound Route 74 in Cape County will be reduced to one lane while crews perform routine bridge maintenance.

The bridge is located between Siemers Road and Mt. Auburn Road, bridge over I-55.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Tuesday, Oct. 4 and Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Pink Up Cape 2011 kickoff party

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Pink Up Cape 2011 kickoff party  will be Wednesday, September 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Saint Francis Medical Center will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the celebration. Pink Up Cape is the medical center's community-centered breast cancer awareness campaign with the proceeds benefiting Dig for Life, which provides free mammograms to local women who could not otherwise afford them.

The event will feature food, a performance of "Pink Warrior" by country music artist Candy Coburn from Dexter, Mo. and the "pinking up" of the medical center. There will also be a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m.

Cape Girardeau County farmer gets farm loan

OAK RIDGE, MO (KFVS) - A Cape Girardeau County farmer has been awarded a low-interest loan to expand his cattle operation.

State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced he's given Gabriel Putz of Oak Ridge at $68,000 low-interest loan. The loan was given through the Missouri Linked Deposit Program.

Zweifel estimates Putz will save $3,000 over 5 years.

12th annual Tour de Cape

12th annual Tour de Cape

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The 12th Annual Tour de Cape will be Saturday, October 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The charity ride that started in historic downtown Cape Girardeau. Organizers say their goal is to promote bicycling for health, recreation and transportation.

The entry fee is $25. The majority of proceeds are used to help the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship program.
