Does it Work Wednesday: Pocket Chair

Ever stood in a long line and wished you could take a seat? Just pull out the so-called "Amazing Pocket Chair."  It's ready to go in just a few simple steps, as long as you take note of the 250-lb. weight limit. I asked several people waiting in long lines at a recent restaurant grand opening to pull up a seat.

I had seven people try it. They ranged in height and weight. The taller people, about six feet and over, said this chair would really be uncomfortable. I'm short myself and even I find it to be a little uncomfortable, at least for a long period of time.

You squat in this chair, more than "sit." However, it's quite easy to put together and probably could fit inside a man's cargo pocket. I asked one woman if she'd carry it in her large purse, but she said no.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Southeast Missouri State University women's athletic programs worked with the 5th Annual March of Dimes Golf Tournament at Cape Girardeau County Club on Monday afternoon.

“It was a great opportunity for us to partner up with the March of Dimes and get our student-athletes engaged with the community at such a great event,” said Interim Director of Athletic Cindy Gannon.

The university says the Walk for Women's Athletics sponsored a hole during the event that helped raise money for the March of Dimes Foundation of Southeast Missouri.

The March of Dimes Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies.

Southeast sets enrollment record for 11th straight year

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University announced Tuesday they have set another enrollment record for the 11th straight year with undergraduate and graduate headcounts at 11,510 for the fall 2011 semester.

The university says Tuesday's official fourth-week census report shows total enrollment is up 3.6 percent from last year. Total beginning freshmen headcount again surpassed the 1,900 mark with 1,904 new freshmen enrolled this fall. Classes at Southeast began August 22.

Key to growth this fall is the second consecutive year in which beginning freshmen enrollment has eclipsed 1,900, according to Dr. Dennis Holt, vice president for enrollment management and student success.

Despite passing the 1,900 mark, beginning freshmen enrollment is down 1.2 percent from this time last year when 1,928 new freshmen were enrolled.

National Child Safety Passenger Week in Mo.

(KFVS) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other safety advocates for National Child Safety Passenger Week September 18 through 24.

The State Highway Patrol says the primary goal of this program is to remind all parents and other adults responsible for children traveling in cars the importance of child safety seats and seat belts. The patrol says every year children suffer needless injuries. In 2010, eight children under the age of eight were killed in a traffic crash and another 1,630 were injured.

Troopers issued citations to 2,130 drivers who failed to secure children less than eight years old in a child restraint/booster seat in 2010.
