Cape Girardeau FD responds to truck fire near gas pump

(Source: Mike Mohundro)

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- The Cape Fire Department responded to a truck on fire Sunday at a gas station on Sprigg Street Cape Girardeau.

Fire fighters say that a squirrel's nest was under the hood of the truck. After someone drove the truck the nest caught fire. This was near a gas pump at a gas station.

Concerned that the truck fire might spread to the gas pump, a gas station worker started to extinguish the fire.

Cape Fire Department crews came and made sure the fire was put out.

The engine compartment had fire damage to it along with the hood.

Soldier runs 5K with training gear

Sgt. Roman Smith

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Saturday is Armed Forces
Day and the 5KFVS in Cape Girardeau featured a special tribute to our troops.

Sgt. Roman Smith, a member
of the National Guard, ran the race carrying his bag full of training gear on
his back.

He partly did it as a
training exercise, but also to remind everyone of the sacrifices he and his
fellow soldiers make every single day.

"Everyone gets to see
just a small glimpse of what we do," said Sgt. Smith. "And, I try to
put a good name out, as often as we can.
Because a lot of people just see what they see on the news and it's
different when you see them in person for yourself."
