Deadline is Friday to register for FEMA help

Deadline is Friday to register for FEMA help

If you or a loved one are still dealing with storm or flood damage from a couple of months ago in Missouri, Friday is the last day to sign up if you're in the Show-Me state.

Friday, Aug. 26 is the deadline to register with FEMA for federal assistance.

Officials say applicants are reminded to keep their FEMA information updated, but not to register twice. Duplicate registrations will delay processing an application.

"If you had damage, you must register with FEMA by Aug. 26, 2011. Don't prejudge your situation or feel that you may be taking something away from your neighbor," said Federal Coordinating Officer Libby Turner.  "We want to make every effort to reach all Missourians and ensure that they receive assistance for eligible losses."

Southeast Missouri State University student discovers shipwreck

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University anthropology student Jennifer Rickard recently discovered a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea with six other people.

The seven team members were in the underwater archaeological school program offered by the Cape of Cavalleria Ecomuseum on the island of Menorca, Spain.

The port city was part of the Roman Empire for over 600 years. Punics, Romans, Arabs, English, French and Spanish have all conquered Menorca at one time in an attempt to dominate the Mediterranean Sea.

The university says Rickard, of Cape Girardeau, received a scholarship from the Harryette Campbell Scholarship Foundation to participate in the summer program.
