Decision on federal courthouse bid coming soon

A government decision on whether or not to accept the $625,000.00 bid to purchase the old federal courthouse building in downtown Cape Girardeau will be made in the near future.

Charlie Cook, spokesman for the General Services Administration, tells me they have 60 days from the bid closing date of August 14th to make that decision.

While Cook cannot tell us who made the bid, he is relaying a message from Heartland News to the bidder.

We've asked who the person/entity is and what plans they have for the building.

Cook says, if the offer is accepted, GSA has 30 days to close on the property and make the sale final.

If GSA does not accept the bid, the building can be put back on the auction block.
