Waller friends plan weekend search, flyer drive in Cape Girardeau County

Bob Sherrill grew up with Jacque Rawson in Farmington.  Three weeks after Jacque Rawson-Waller's disappearance, Sherrill has come to a painful conclusion.

"Well, I believe a childhood friend of mine was murdered," Sherrill said.  "I've been looking for her, looking for answers since the time that she went missing, and I would say the people in this community, in Cape County, need to step up."

Sherrill is rallying friends and strangers to take action Sunday morning.

"I've got several commitments from friends of Jacque's from Farmington that are coming. I've got two people that are going to be driving over 100 miles to come," Sherrill said.

Sherill printed his own flyers and plans to focus the search/distribution effort on the north Cape and Fruitland areas.

Exactly three weeks ago, authorities found Waller's abandoned SUV on I-55 near the Fruitland exit.

Lawrence pleads guilty in 2009 Cape Girardeau triple-murder case

Friday brought a huge developments in a Cape Girardeau triple murder case, as Michelle Lawrence pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in the 2009 plot that claimed the lives of Jamie Orman, her 15-year-old son Derrick, and unborn son.

Lawrence is the second of three suspects in the case to plead guilty.  Samuel 'Ray Ray' Hughes also plead guilty in December. Hughes admitted he served as a lookout during the crime. However, Hughes said he thought he was participating in a burglary, not a murder.

Hughes and Lawrence both entered their pleas as part of a deal with prosecutors. Hughes now only faces one court of second-degree murder instead of three. Both Hughes and Lawrence have agreed to testify at alleged shooter Ryan Patterson's upcoming trial.

Patterson pleaded not guilty at an earlier court date.

Cape Girardeau sewer utilities going up

Whether you rent or own in Cape Girardeau, your sewer bill's going up next month.

Cape city leaders say most sewer customers will see an average monthly increase of at least $21 starting July 1.

It's all part of a sewer rate increase voters approved in April 2011.

The increase will help pay for a new wastewater treatment facility.

This increase only applies to Cape Girardeau sewer customers.
