Cape Farmer's Market now open for their 26th season

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Farmer's Market opened on Thursday, April 14 for their 26th season.

The market will be open every Thursday until November 17 at the Plaza Galleria parking lot. Hours for the market are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Items sold at the market have been grown or made within a 75 mile radius of Cape Girardeau. Products being sold include cherry tomatoes, lettuce, asparagus, onions, radishes, herbs, pickles, relishes, jellies, honey, eggs, grass-fed beef and pork and walnuts. There will also be bedding plants, flowers and baked goods.

Throughout the season, other locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables will be available.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The parks and recreation department in Cape Girardeau will host their 26th annual Friends of the Parks Day on Saturday, April 16.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and would be an opportunity for individuals and groups to clean up Cape Girardeau's parks.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Capaha Park.

Egg hunt at Kiwanis Park

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Children ages one through eight can hunt Easter eggs at Kiwanis Park on Saturday, April 16.

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation is hosting the event that will include three egg hunts based on age groups. Children must provide their own baskets for the free hunt.

Ages one through two and three through four will hunt at 10 a.m. Five through eight year olds will hunt at 10:45 a.m. That gives each group 30 to 45 minutes search.

Each child will also have an opportunity to take a picture with the Easter Bunny. Prizes will be given after each hunt for finding special eggs.

First Baptist Church of Jackson presents annual Easter pageant

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - The First Baptist Church will present their Easter pageant April 14-17.

This year the pageant is called "Awakening: Growing in Grace and Knowledge." It will include a cast of over 125 members and live animals that will act out the life of Jesus Christ.

2011 Easter pageant schedule includes:

  • Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the pageant are free but seating is limited.

Saint Francis Medical Center, student athletes team up for Dig for Life

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center will be partnering with high school and college athletes to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

The money raised will go to the Dig for Life campaign that provides free mammograms to women who cannot afford them.

On April 14, Notre Dame High School will launch Athletes for Life, an adaptation of Dig for Life. The Notre Dame Bulldog baseball team will sponsor a Pink Out Game with Charleston High School where students will sell Notre Dame Athletes for Life t-shirts and baseball hats to raise money.They will also collect donations at the gate and during the fifth inning stretch.

The pre-game events start at 5:45 p.m.

Easter Eggstravaganza at Kiwanis Park

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Angel Productions will host their Fifth Annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 9.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Kiwanis Park, Shelter 1.

Activities include stories, egg hunts, games and prizes for all kids ages 1-12.

The event last year had around 350 kids and their parents from all over including Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Perryville, Illinois and even Wisconsin according to Coordinator Sheri Johnson.
