Search for executive director of MAGNET Board postponed

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The search for the new executive director of the Cape Girardeau Area Magnet Board has been postponed.

MAGNET Board of Directors determined that the final candidates did not meet the qualification for the position after extensive interviews.

John Mehner, Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, will serve as interim director.

The Cape Girardeau Area MAGNET is a non-profit development organization that helps companies relocate or expand in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Cape, Jackson Chamber and MAGNET to host vendor fair

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, and the Cape Area MAGNET will host a Business to Business Vendor Fair from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27.

The event will be held in rooms 2 A&B at the Osage Centre.

The purpose of this event is to provide a format for area businesses to visit with some of the larger employers and learn more about how they might be able to do business with those organizations. Each exhibitor will have a booth which businesses can visit anytime between 2 and 5 p.m.

According to the chamber, confirmed exhibitors include: Cape Girardeau County, Cape Girardeau Public Schools, City of Cape Girardeau, Isle of Capri, Saint Francis Medical Center, SoutheastHEALTH, and Southeast Missouri State University.

There is no cost to attend this event and it is open to the public.

80-room hotel to be built in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Midamerica Hotels Corporation of Cape Girardeau, announced plans Friday to build a new hotel in Cape Girardeau.

The company has entered into an agreement with the Hilton Corporation for the facility to be an 80-room Hampton Inn.

Midamerica opened the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Cape Girardeau in 2005.

Officials say the addition of a Hampton Inn to this complex will continue to make Cape Girardeau a preferred overnight stop for thousands of travelers.

According to the company, the hotel is expected to open in late 2014.

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting and open house on Friday, June 22 at 10 a.m.

The ribbon cutting will be at Custom Cut, 2021 State Highway PP in Jackson, Mo.

New 'country karaoke' bar to feature live band every weekend

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A new establishment will open in the old Roxy's Country Saloon building in Cape Girardeau.

The new owners will open Bill & Chas' on Friday, July 6 at 107 N. Main Street.

Bill and Chas Watkins used to run Bill & Chas' on South Kingshighway. They first opened their doors on April 1, 1988 before heading to Nashville three years later to start recording their music. The band, Chas & the 16th Ave., will host their grand opening.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A ribbon cutting at the Broadway Prescription Shop on Thursday, June 14 will celebrate the one year anniversary of new ownership by Lee Schlitt and Kevin Wood.

The ribbon cutting will be at 3 p.m. and the shop is located at 710 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. A birthday party after the ribbon cutting will celebrate 80 years of business.

Three Saint Francis physicians earn credentials

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center has announced that three of its physicians and Medical Partners have been credentialed by MD Anderson's Physicians Network through the medical center.

The physicians include: Louis P. Caragine, Jr., MD, PhD, FAANS, neurosurgeon and endovascular neurosurgeon at Cape Cebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery; and Bradley K. Bittle, MD, FCCP, D-ABSM, and Keith Graham, MD, D-ABSM, pulmonologists/sleep medicine physicians at Cape Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine.  

This credentialing gives these physicians access to the advanced, evidence-based treatment processes developed by MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nation's leader in cancer care.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is located in Houston, Texas.
