CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Southeast Missouri Foodbank received one of 20 refrigerated trucks on Friday, Feb. 3.
The trucks were donated by the Wal-Mart Foundation to Feeding America. They are designed to transport fresh fruit, vegetables and other nutritious foods to help provide more food to the 55,000 people suffering from hunger and living in a 16-county service area around Cape Girardeau, Mo.
“A new refrigerated truck will complement our Retail Store Donation services by providing a dependable vehicle to use for pick-ups over the large, rural, 16-county service area which Southeast Missouri Food Bank serves,” said Karen Green, executive director, Southeast Missouri Food Bank.
The donation is part of Wal-Mart's $19 million holiday giving campaign to help guarantee Christmas for U.S. nonprofits dedicated to fighting hunger and providing other basic needs.
The truck was presented at 11 a.m. at the Southeast Missouri Foodbank located at 3920 Nash Rd., Cape Girardeau, Mo.
