JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - Employees at a Jackson business are offering to wrap your Christmas presents in exchange for a donation to the Backpacks for Friday program.
For the third year American Family Insurance in uptown Jackson is helping out a great cause, but with a little help this time. The insurance company in uptown Jackson lent space and is joining with EarlyBirds.com to set up to wrap Christmas presents to help a SEMO Food Bank program called 'Backpacks for Fridays'. They say anyone; if you are too busy to wrap, can't wrap well or just want to help out a cause; can come in and drop off their presents and get them wrapped.
The group says you may either stay and watch a Christmas movie and enjoy some cookies and beverages while waiting for the presents to be wrapped or give them a time when you want to pick them up. When the people return to pick up their presents, EarlyBirds.com is asking for a donation and the presents will be under the tree, wrapped and ready to go.
EarlyBirds.com says they are donating their time and 100 percent of the money raised will go to benefit the Back Packs for Fridays. The money raised here will stay in Jackson and help out the 60 kids in the Jackson School District who are enrolled.
The Back Packs for Fridays program for Jackson students receive a free back pack which is filled every week with 10 pounds of food, a loaf of bread and a box of cereal. This program is designed to make sure kids who don't have much to eat, get the food they need to survive and sustain a level of nourishment so they can be at their best for learning at school and in life, especially on the weekend due to not having school where they feed the kids at least once a day.
Also, every day a teacher provides a snack to the enrolled students and their family members who also are at school in Jackson. Students are sent home $320 worth of food per kid, per school year through the program.
EarlyBirds.com says this far they have received over 100 gifts to wrap. They will be wrapping presents from Dec. 1 through Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
