Cape Girardeau City Council notes | Community Spirit
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau City Council met Monday, July 15.
Some of the things discussed include:
Cape Girardeau’s City Council opted to postpone their first of two or three votes to pass an ordinance to put a continuation of the Hotel/Motel tax on the November 2013 ballot. City Manager Scott Meyer said the Council does not want to move forward without a stronger consensus. Council members have been reviewing the options since their April retreat.
A volunteer committee working closely with Old Town Cape presented their plan for expanding an existing special tax district to include parts of Broadway in addition to Main Street. The steering committee is gathering signatures of supporting business and property owners. The money would be used for litter pick-up, security and other services that increase property values in Cape’s downtown.
The City’s newest employee PLAYMO was at Monday night’s meeting. Playmo is the Parks and Recreation Department’s new mascot that hopes to get area kids more active and healthy.
