150 year anniversary of the Battle of Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The 150th anniversary of the Battle of Cape Girardeau is in April 2013.

On April 26, 1863, Union and Confederate soldiers engaged in a fierce, four-hour artillery battle that came to be known as the Battle of Cape Girardeau. 

There are still unmarked graves in Old Lorimier Cemetery.

On April 26, there will be a Civil War event at the actual battle site of the Battle of Cape Girardeau at Grace United Methodist Church at 521 Caruthers Street in Cape Girardeau.

Here is the itinerary:

•    6:30 p.m. - Gather on Grace United Methodist Church’s north lawn for a brief outdoor introduction and visual orientation from Scott House, Chairman of the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission and Civil War reenactor, as to where key elements in the

Battle of Cape Girardeau would have been located.

Paducah woman arrested for allegedly cutting other woman

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah woman was arrested after she allegedly assaulted another woman with a knife at her downtown apartment.

Lora A. Woodson, 46, was charged with second-degree assault.

According to police, Brown told them she was at Woodson's apartment when Woodson began yelling at her to leave. She said Woodson grabbed a knife from the kitchen and cut her on the left side of her forehead.

Police say Brown left the apartment and went to her mother's apartment in the building and called police. Woodson was arrested and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.

Officers say while Brown was getting medical treatment at a Paducah hospital, it was determined that she was charged in three outstanding warrants with failure to appear. They say she, too, was arrested and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.

Cape Girardeau police looking for 3 suspects accused of shoplifting from WalMart

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau police are looking for three people in connection with a shoplifting report at WalMart.

On Wednesday, Feb. 20 around 4 p.m. officers were dispatched to WalMart on William in reference to shoplifting. When officers talked to employees, they learned three people had entered the store and walked out with items without paying.

According to police, the suspects took a television, surround sound, media tower and small tables. The value of the items is over $500.

Judges, attorneys to discuss Missouri vs. McNeely case at Southeast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State's Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion and the Political Science Honor Society are sponsoring "Is Involuntary, Warrantless Blood Drawing Constitutional? Missouri v. McNeely in the Supreme Court.

It will be held at 6 p.m. February 20 in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium.

According to the university, Missouri v. McNeely originated in Cape Girardeau and was heard by the United States Supreme Court on Jan. 9, 2013. The central legal question is whether the Constitution protects citizens from having blood evidence extracted and tested against their will and without a warrant in DUI cases.

2 arrested in Illinois after boat reported stolen in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau police received a report Wednesday around 10:50 p.m. from someone stating his boat was stolen.

The person says he chained his boat trailer up Wednesday afternoon and returned home around 10:30 p.m. to find the boat gone but the trailer still there.

Police received a call from a Union County, Ill. deputy saying he made a vehicle stop in Illinois with the boat in the bed of the truck. Two people were arrested.

Armed robbery reported in Cape Girardeau

Armed robbery reported in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A robbery that took place Tuesday afternoon, February 12, was reported at the Cape Girardeau police station.

According to police, the victim stated that he arrived in the 200 block of S. Ellis to meet a subject. He said that he got out of his vehicle and walked toward a home.  

Police say the victim was then approached by a black male, in his early 20s, wearing a brown hoodie and black jeans. They say the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and took property from him.  

The suspect fled on foot from the area. Police say the victim was not injured.  

There are no suspects in custody at this time and the case is still under investigation.

Cape Girardeau physician faces mail fraud, fictitious instrument charges

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A Cape Girardeau physician has been charged with passing and making fictitious instruments and mail fraud.

Byron Cornelius Glenn, 57, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 6. Cape Girardeau police say he was charged in a five-count indictment with three felony counts of passing fictious instrument with intent to defraud, one felony count of making a fictious instrument with intent to defraud and one felony count of mail fraud.

The indictment alleges that the offenses happened between July and December of 2012. Glenn appeared before the U.S. Magistrate Judge Lewis M. Blanton in the district court for the Eastern District of Missouri in Cape Girardeau Wednesday afternoon. A detention hearing has been scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11.
