Cape Girardeau man sentenced to 10 years on convicted felon, gun charge

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A Cape Girardeau man was sentenced to 10 years for one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a gun.

Ricky Mixon, 27, appeared before U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. on Monday.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Missouri, on Oct. 3, 2011, a Cape Girardeau police officer saw Mixon hiding a 9 mm pistol in the return of an unused soda machine. Mixon was then arrested and the gun was recovered. Mixon was previously convicted for the felonies of burglary and for a prior federal charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.

This case was investigated by the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Keith D. Sorrell handled the prosecution for the government.
