Judges, attorneys to discuss Missouri vs. McNeely case at Southeast | Crime

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State's Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion and the Political Science Honor Society are sponsoring "Is Involuntary, Warrantless Blood Drawing Constitutional? Missouri v. McNeely in the Supreme Court.

It will be held at 6 p.m. February 20 in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium.

According to the university, Missouri v. McNeely originated in Cape Girardeau and was heard by the United States Supreme Court on Jan. 9, 2013. The central legal question is whether the Constitution protects citizens from having blood evidence extracted and tested against their will and without a warrant in DUI cases.

Speakers at this symposium include attorney Steve C. Wilson, who defended Tyler McNeely; attorney John "Jack” Koester, the prosecutor in the case against him; William L. Syler, Cape Girardeau Court of Common Pleas judge; and Steven N. Limbaugh, Eastern District of Missouri United States District Court judge, who will discuss the application of law and decision making in state and federal trial and appeals courts.

The event is free and open to the public.
