2 new volunteer programs at Missouri State Parks | Environment

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Missouri state parks have added two new programs to allow groups to volunteer at state parks and historic sites.

Families, organizations, youth groups, school groups and businesses the opportunity to support a Missouri state park or historic site through the newly added Adopt-a-Park and Youth Volunteer Patch programs.

Groups can adopt areas within a park or historic site, such as trails, campgrounds, picnic areas and streams.

Groups are asked to contribute 200 hours of service hours a year for two years. After completion of 100 hours, a sign will be put up at the park or historic site recognizing the group’s efforts.

Groups can look through a list of adoptable areas at each facility. Groups can contact the specific park of an adoptable area if they are interested.

The Youth Volunteer Patch Program gives kids under the age of 18 and organized youth groups, such as Scouts, 4-H groups and Future Farmers of America, the opportunity to assist with a variety of projects in a state park or historic site to earn patches. Groups can look through lists of potential projects at each facility. Groups or individuals should contact the park or historic site to arrange a day of service. Each individual will receive a Missouri State Parks Youth Volunteer patch after completion of the project.
