Admission is $5 for brides and your entourage is free.

Old Town Cape receives 2013 National Main Street Program Accreditation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Old Town Cape has received Accreditation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Center and the Missouri Main Street Connection.

Old Town Cape joins other Main Street revitalization programs across the country being recognized, including only 7 other Missouri programs. This is the 9th year Old Town Cape has received its National Accreditation.

The organization was evaluated on its performance in 2012 and it was determined that it met all ten performance standards and criteria required to be named an accredited Main Street program. The ten standards of performance help keep the Main Street movement strong and focused nationally.

Claire Herbst receives Belcher scholarship

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Each year, the Missouri School Boards’ Association, through its Future Builders Foundation, awards seventeen scholarships to Missouri high school seniors.

Claire Herbst, a recent graduate of Cape Central High School, is a recipient of one of those scholarships, and was recognized last night during the May meeting of the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Board of Education.

Claire will be attending Drake University, in Des Moines, Iowa, and will be majoring in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Charlie and Dr. Sydney Herbst.

The museum is located at 224 East Adams Street.

Blood drive June 3 in Cape Girardeau

Blood drive June 3 in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Big River Telephone is proud to partner, once again, with the American Red Cross for the second year.

They will be hosting a blood drive on Monday, June 3, from noon to 4 p.m. The drive will be held at the Big River office, at 24 South Minnesota Street in Cape Girardeau.

The blood drive is open to employees of Big River and the public. Photo ID’s or a Red Cross donor card are required. Donors should also eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating. Anyone who presents to donate blood will receive an American Red Cross t-shirt.

Last year’s blood drive results were outstanding; enough blood was donated to save many lives. This year Big River hopes to get even more collected blood.

Summer fun at Lazy L Safari Park

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - It’s going to be a summer full of fun and adventure at Lazy L Safari Park in Cape Girardeau.

Summer hours for the walk-thru zoo start Memorial Day weekend and the zoo will then be open daily through Labor Day in September. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the zoo closing at 7 p.m.

Memorial Day weekend activities will include both Camel and Pony Rides operating all weekend and the zoo will be open on Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.

Does your child seek a “wild adventure” this summer? Look no further than the camps and classes offered by Lazy L Safari Park.

“We offer a variety of camps and classes for every child – whether they just want to have fun with animals or if they seek a more in depth learning experience,” said Vicki Lantz, zoo director.
