Cheer competition to be Dec. 9 at the Show Me Center | Events
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Bootheel Classic competitive cheer competition Sunday, December 9 , at the Show Me Center.
This cheerleading competition, which is a UCA sponsored event, will show case some of the best cheerleaders in our region. Teams from throughout Missouri and neighboring states are scheduled to attend. This is one in a series of competitions where the competitive cheerleaders vie for a bid to Nationals, the ultimate cheerleading showdown for cheer teams across the U.S., held annually in Orlando, Fla.
SEMO Elite is a local competitive cheer team, founded in 2011 by coaches Matt and Heather Harris, both of whom are former collegiate cheerleaders; Matt is a former UCA staff member. The Harris’ previously lived in the Springfield, Mo. area where they established a competitive cheer program that produced a nationally ranked squad. They are committed to finding cheerleading and scholarship opportunities for their senior squad members and many of their graduating cheerleaders have gone on to cheer for Division I schools and work for national cheerleading organizations.
The current SEMO Elite squad competes as a level 4, co-ed team. This will be their second competition of the season. Their first competition, held Nov. 11 in Indianapolis, Ind., yielded the SEMO Elite team a first place trophy and secured their bid for Nationals.
This weekend’s competition will include 62 teams from beginner level 1 through Senior Co-Ed level 5. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-14 and free for ages 4 and under. Competition starts at 8:30 am.
