37th Annual Old Timers Days May 25-26

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - The River Hills Antique Tractor Club will hold the 37th annual Old Timers Days on May 25 and 26.

The event will be at the Seminary Picnic Grounds in Perryville, Mo. There will be antique tractors, cars and trucks on display as well as threshing, sawmilling, hay bailing, corn shelling and more.

Several area crafters will be there as well.

Cape Public Schools bids farewell to retirees

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau Public Schools hosted a reception for retirees last week at the Central Administrative Office at 301 N. Clark.

In attendance were principals, teachers, administrators, and retirees’ friends and family members.

Retirees included Richard Banville, Patisha Barnes, Joseph Bradshaw, Deborah Ebaugh, Barbara Egbert, Robin Hankinson, Catherine Huskey, Pat Johnson, Juanita (Bonnie) Kerr, Deborah McCann, Barry Pender, Debra Phillips, Pamela Richmond, Susan Riehl, Linda Robert, Steven Schaffner, Mary Shelton, Dale Smith, Lisa Smith, Lawrence Strattman, Karen Tarno, Harry Thompson, John Timothy Ward, Dean Whitlow, Steven Williams and Jane Womack.

The reception was organized by Community Relations Committee and supported by Community Teachers Association.

Fort D comes to life for Memorial Day weekend

Fort D comes to life for Memorial Day weekend

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Fort D will be brought to life once more during the Memorial Day Weekend Timeline.

Re-enactors at Fort D the weekend of May 25-27, will honor those who died in our nation’s service. 

For the four years of the Civil War, Fort D protected the city of Cape Girardeau from attack. 

The public is invited to honor our veterans in the Memorial Day Weekend Timeline celebration of the eras of Cape Girardeau’s history, including a commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Cape Girardeau. 

Infantry drill and firing, artillery drill and firing, a tent open for purchasing goods, and Civil War, French and Indian and Native American camp life will be on the grounds all three days of the event. 

The SEMO World War II Military Vehicle Group will be on site as well.

2nd Annual Wheeled Wonders Fun Fest

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Discovery Playhouse will host their 2nd Annual Wheeled Wonders Fun Fest on Saturday June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the old Steve and Barry’s Parking Lot at West Park Mall.

Wheeled Wonders Fun Fest is an opportunity for children of all ages to watch, explore, honk horns and climb in various occupational vehicles while meeting the experts that operate them. It will provide children with a greater understanding of important career fields, specifically engineering.

Discovery Playhouse says this is a great chance to reach the families, from all over our region, while having fun. Last year’s event was a great success and we anticipate a better turn out this year.

School Board honors Cape art students

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - For the second year in a row a Cape Public Schools student has been awarded “Best in Show” at Southeast Missouri State University’s High School Art Exhibition.

In addition, twelve other Cape Public Schools District students won awards ranging from 1st Place to Honorable mention, and seven other students’ works were selected for exhibition.

1st Annual 5K 'Cupcake Challenge' held in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The First annual 2013 5K Cupcake Challenge kicked off in Cape Girardeau today with over 100 participants.

Runners raced around Arena Park and even stopped to have a cupcake or two.

Organizers felt to include cupcakes as part of the course to make it fun and friendly.

With each participant that stuffed their mouth with a cupcake, time was taken off of their total run.

This race benefits the Hope Children's Home.

City of Cape Girardeau offers new storytelling schedule

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - An Evening of Storytelling with Regina Carpenter and Jim May on Friday, May 17 marks a new chapter in storytelling events in Cape Girardeau.

Three one-day storytelling events are now offered throughout the year, and the new format gets kudos from nationally renowned storyteller Regina Carpenter.

“The format allows audiences to enjoy an unforgettable evening of wonderful stories with their community members,” Carpenter said.

Audiences will now be able to journey away and come back again in just one evening with the best storytellers the country has to offer. In this concentrated time, we get to experience the powerful connection story can bring to our community and family.”
