CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - In 2009, the Cape Girardeau Police Department and Cape Girardeau Public Schools came together in an effort to advance a program called Take Me Home.
The program is designed for families that have loved ones with special needs that could possibly walk away from where they are being cared for and not be able to correctly give police officers information so to return them home.
There is a database with information of the loved ones including contact information as well as information on the disability.
This information will help police officers identify and assist those with special needs.
DARE Officer Luther Bonds and Director of Special Services Deena Ring are trying to update and verify the most recent information of the individuals already registered.
They also want to remind the community that this program is available to everyone at no cost.
