Well known Cape businessman passes away

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A well known and successful Cape Girardeau businessman has lost his battle with cancer.

"With great sadness, we at Plaza Tire Service have said good bye to Founder Vernon “Pee Wee” Rhodes.  Surrounded by family, Pee Wee passed away at his Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Homecomers Celebration on Friday night

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - The 103rd Annual Homecomers Celebration will feature the final talent show competition and a band Friday night.

Events include:

  • 6 p.m. - Rides open
  • 6:30 p.m. - Talent show, final competition
  • 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Cabin Fever Band
  • 10 p.m. - Attendance drawing, American Legion

River Heritage Passport Days in Cape Girardeau

River Heritage Passport Days in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The River Heritage Passport Days will be Saturday, July 2 through Monday, July 4.

Visitors to Passport Days will have a passport stamped at each historic site they visit. If you get your passport stamped at three sites you're eligible to win a prize.

The historic sites include:

  • Cape River Heritage Museum
  • Fort D Living History Event
  • Glenn House
  • Old St. Vincent's Church
  • Red House Interpretive Center

Passport Days will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.

The clock turns 25

The clock turns 25

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Old Town Cape and the Special Business District will host a birthday party for the clock on Tuesday, June 28.

There will be music, hotdogs and birthday cake at the celebration.

It will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will take place on Themis Street.

Municipal pool now open

Municipal pool now open

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The city of Cape Girardeau announced the Central Municipal pool opened June 22.

The city said renovations to the pool include a new pool deck surface, new diving boards, a renovated bath house with new fixtures and partitions, a family changing room and a central entry corridor.

“The renovations are looking fantastic,” said Patrick Watson, Aquatics Supervisor.
