Essential air service program spared | News
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Good news for Heartland
airports.
Taxpayer subsidies are
back in the transportation budget.
Last year, congress
prohibited subsidies from exceeding one-thousand-dollars a passenger.
The essential air service
program, subsidizes flights to 120 communities in 35 states including the Cape
Girardeau and Paducah airports.
The program awards
contracts, usually worth between one-and two-million-dollars a year.
Supporters of the
subsidies say having access to air service is crucial to the economies of rural
towns.
