Jackson soldier promoted to sergeant

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - A promotion ceremony was held for a Jackson resident who is currently serving on his annual training mission to Honduras on June 28.

Joseph Broach, Missouri National Guard, was promoted to the rank of sergeant after his unit, the 880th Engineer Team of Perryville, returned from a day of improving a school in San Pedro Sula.

"Sgt. Broach is a great Soldier," said Sgt. 1st Class Andrew Moore, of Perryville.  "We served together in the 1138th Sapper Company in Iraq doing route clearing missions.  He should have been promoted years ago."

In fact, Broach has turned down numerous promotion opportunities so he could stay with the 880th, where he served seven years.

Broach will now go to the 220th Engineer Company in Festus, Mo.

"I'm going to try to be a good example," Broach said.

Broach is supported in his military career by his wife, Amanda, and four-month-old daughter, Lillian Clara.

While serving on his two-week annual training mission he has also received a lot of support from his employer, Erving Cable Construction.

Broach said his heart will remain with the 880th.  "It was time to move up," he said.  "But hopefully someday I can come back."
