CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS)- A Jackson man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for stealing more than half a million dollars in a kickback scheme from his employer.

Jason Paul Mitchell, 35, of Jackson was found guilty of theft in a jury trial on June 19.

After the judge declared the sentence, Mitchell fainted in the courtroom, according to the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor's Office.

Mitchell was the purchasing manager for The Dewitt Company in Sikeston.

The Dewitt Company makes gardening and golf course products.

Mitchell secretly arranged with one of the DeWitt suppliers to have the supplier return to him personally four percent of every purchase of the DeWitt Company made from the supplier.

The kickbacks were sent by wire transfer to his bank account in Cape Girardeau.
