CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University says renovations are underway at the Southeast Softball Complex.
According to the university, the Athletics Department is partnering with the university's Facilities Management Department on the $67,000 effort. They say the project includes a brand new infield and re-sodding the outfield to provide better drainage.
"It has been wonderful to work with Athletics and come up with the best field that is conducive to play," said Angela Meyer, Southeast's director of facilities management. "The proper drainage and playing surface gives a nice clean and professional look that we all strive for."
The university says an O'Fallon company, The Florissant Sod Company, will be providing the installation and irrigation which will enhance the facility.
"Our Facilities Management staff has done a first-rate job in securing quality material and contractors to totally renovate our softball field," said Southeast head coach Lana Richmond. "Our infield has a completely new surface and the quality of the surface will significantly benefit our student-athletes safety in practice and games. The outfield grass is a premium Bermuda sod and it will give us an exceptional turf. The field looks great and our players will be eager to start fall practice on the new surface."
The Southeast Softball Complex, which has been the home of the Redhawks for 15 years, is located at the north end of campus on the corner of Sprigg and Bertling. A windscreen along the outfield wall, state-of-the-art scoreboard and protective fencing in front of both dugouts are also among recent upgrades.
The university says renovations will be completed before the start of the 2013 season.
