CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Lightning struck a runway at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, according to airport manager Bruce Loy.
Loy said it hit the ground around 5:30 Thursday afternoon.
He said it left a hole in the pavement about 1 foot long, and 3 or 4 inches deep.
He said they see a few lightning strikes each year.
"We definitely tell people not to stand out on the runway when we do have a storm coming in because it can happen, as shown by the video we sent you, it's pretty violent," said Loy.
Airport worker Adam Beard said they make sure to patch the hole in the pavement quickly, because otherwise it can cause problems for the airplanes.
"It could cause a lot of damage to any of the airplanes out there if they hit it, or hit any of the rubble so yes we had to clean it up, and they had to patch it up," said Beard.
