MO & TN back-to-school tax free holiday weekend | News

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Seventeen states are participating in the tax free weekend including Missouri and Tennessee.

Kristen Walters' daughter Kaitlyn is entering the 3rd grade at Clippard Elementary. The two spent the day shopping during this tax free weekend.

"Every little bit we can save we want to come out here and do that," Walters said.

She says with four kids it's especially important.

This is one of many families walking through Tom Wright's doors at the Wal-Mart in Jackson, Missouri looking to save.

"It's hard when you get 20-30 people down an aisle so you just basically don't try to run out then you back stock it real good overnight," Wright, the store manager, said.

He says customers are going to buy the supplies anyway so it makes sense to buy it now.

"Used to always be the week before school was the busiest," Wright said. "Now, it's pushed it to these three days."

Walters says spent less than what she thought. She attributes it to the N's on the right side of her receipt meaning no tax.
