CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - If you're an animal lover you don't have to go very far to get up close and personal with some of the most exotic animals you've ever seen. In fact, you can find them in Cape Girardeau County. Just roll up your sleeves and get ready to feed. The Lazy L Safari Park is a hands on adventure from beginning to end.
"We've got about 50 different species of exotic animals," said zoo owner Vicki Lantz. "This is everything to us."
Vicki says she's been around exotic animals since she was seven and they're more than pets. Animals like kangaroo Ruthy, are family.
"She lived with us in our house all winter a couple years ago, she is still not very happy about being moved to the barn," said Vicki.
Barn life doesn't look so bad though, tails are wagging and kisses are plenty.
Falling in love with the animals is easy, but Vicki says her main goal goes deeper. She wants all her safari goers to leave with knowledge.
"We do over 100 school groups a year," said Vicki.
The sheep are fun to feed, but did you know they help make your toothbrush? You'll learn educational tid bits like that throughout the zoo.
"We've learned quite a bit," said Barbara Worley from Poplar Bluff. "A lot of them have seen animals they've never seen before."
As you meander through the park, you never know what's around the next bend. Some small and sweet, while others are tall and powerful. For more information click here.
