CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Fire crews were on the scene of a small apartment fire Friday morning in Cape Girardeau.

The fire started around 5:30 a.m. in a complex on Marrosean Drive.

Crews on the scene told Heartland News that 12 units were evacuated after a small fire started in the kitchen of one of the units on the third floor.

Crews quickly put that fire out and say concrete walls helped keep the fire to the kitchen only.

Two people were inside the apartment and got out safe.

No one else was hurt.  Residents in the other apartments will be allowed back into their homes Friday.
