Jackson native dies in Air Force training exercise | News
JACKSON, MO (KFVS)- A Jackson High School graduate died during a training exercise with the United States Air Force in Florida.
According to his family, Major Garrett Knowlan died during a training exercise in Pensacola, Florida on October 11.
Major Knowlan was participating in a course in how to survive in open water after parachuting.
The Air Force said that the training course included "instruction in signaling rescue aircraft, hazardous aquatic life, medical aspects of water survival and life raft procedures."
He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base.
His father Jack Knowlan says "the family is greatly saddened by Garrett's passing. We know he's with God and he was doing what he was trained to do. "
Major Knowlan was a father of two. He was 32.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at the Cape County Cowboy Church in Oak Ridge (I-55 at mile marker 111). The visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m., with burial to follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
A memorial fund has been established to provide assistance to Garrett's wife, Meg, and their two boys, Beckett and Levi. Donations should be made payable to the "Knowlan Family Memorial Fund" and mailed to the Knowlan Family Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 363, Jackson, Mo., 63755.
