Heart for Africa providing for African orphans | News
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Cape Girardeau continues its mission to provide a safe haven for orphans in Africa.
Holly Brantley recently talked to some local volunteers who returned from a big mission trip just a few weeks ago.
Seven people from Cape Girardeau just returned from Swaziland with Heart for Africa.
Their mission was building and construction projects on a sustainable farm known as project Canaan.
They're basically growing a community to provide food and water and education in the country with extremely high rates of poverty, orphans and AIDS.
While Heart for Africa frequently sends over teams, this was the first group to focus on construction.
It was everything from roofing to a home for care givers of the baby home.
Jimmy Wilferth of Heart for Africa was part of the trip.
He says this building trip provided priceless improvements for project Canaan
"Every nail that gets driven is one step closer to continue the proceeds," said Wilferth. "Cape Girardeau and the surrounding communities show up every time and they give 'til it hurts."
This sustainable community is a long term work in progress.
I saw it firsthand this summer as part of a trip, and I can tell you these pictures look like they've made amazing improvements.
In fact, they completed their list meant for the entire length of their stay in less than a day!
