Longtime Cape County Prosecutor leaving for federal position
News
Swingle has served as Cape County's prosecutor since January 1987.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS)- After more than 130 jury trials, 31 appellate cases, and 79 homicide prosecutions, Morley Swingle is leaving what he calls his "dream job" for a position with the United States Attorney's Office.

Swingle announced Wednesday he will leave his position as Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney later this month to take a job as a federal prosecutor.

"I have loved serving as the prosecutor of Cape Girardeau County," Swingle said.  "I have a wonderful staff and I'll miss them, but I have felt for a while that I am ready for new challenges in my life."

Swingle has served as Cape County's prosecutor since January 1987.

"It's been a fun ride, " said Swingle. "I've really enjoyed it."

Under Missouri law, the governor will appoint someone to serve the remaining two years of Swingle's four-year term.

"They will find someone good to take over the reins," Swingle said.  "My current group of assistant prosecutors is the best I've ever had.  Cape Girardeau County will remain in good hands with them."

Swingle will work for United States Attorney Richard G. Callahan.

The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri is headquartered in St. Louis and prosecutes federal crimes committed in 48 Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis.

Swingle expects to work out of the branch office at the Rush H. Limbaugh Sr. U.S. Courthouse in Cape Girardeau.
