CAPE GIRARDEAU (KFVS)- Potential candidates for the open seat on Cape Girardeau's City Council can pick up their nomination petition forms on Wednesday, December 5.

The Ward 6 seat became open after Kathy Swan was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

In order to be eligible to serve on the Council, candidates must be a registered Cape Girardeau voter, at least 21 years old, lived in Cape Girardeau for at least two years prior to the election, and a resident of Ward 6 for at least 90 days prior to December 18.

Those wishing to fill the seat must file between December 18 and January 15.

If more than two candidates file, a primary election will be held on April 2, with a general election to follow on August 6; A general election will take place April 2 if there are two or less candidates.                            

Candidates must present a petition signed by 50 registered voters in order to be nominated.
