Cape Girardeau downtown crosswalk replacement begins Jan. 11

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The City of Cape Girardeau says streets downtown will receive a small face lift starting Friday, January 11.

The City says crosswalks made of pavers on Main, Spanish and Themis Streets will be replaced by red, scored colored concrete to match recent upgrades along the Broadway corridor.

The road work, contracted to Fronabarger Concreters, will last about six weeks, weather permitting. Main Street intersections will remain open to at least one traffic lane. Intersections on Spanish and Themis will briefly close to traffic during the project.

The City says signs will direct traffic around the construction area, and motorists are asked to use caution. Signs will also remind downtown visitors and other patrons that businesses are open during the construction.

For more information, you can contact the City of Cape Girardeau Development Services Division at 573-339-6327. You can also click here to see a map of the scheduled project.
