CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- For more than 30 years, a Republican has represented the people of Missouri's 8th District in Congress.

With Representative Jo Ann Emerson stepping down, sixteen Republicans have shown an interest in the job.

Thursday night, a good number of those hopefuls will answer some tough questions in Cape Girardeau at the 8th Congressional Forum.

Mike Masteron, the chair of the Cape Girardeau County Democratic Central Committee, says they've had a few meetings about Democrat candidates, but are waiting until the governor sets the date for the special election.

Masterson says that won't come until the Secretary of State receives Emerson's official letter of resignation.

In the meantime, he says they have two confirmed candidates, Jack Rushin of Poplar Bluff and Todd Mahn of Festus.

The forum is hosted by the SEMO Pachyderms. This is the second of two officially sanctioned forums, with the first being held on Jan. 10 in Salem, Mo.

You can watch the forum Thursday night starting at 7 p.m. on kfvs12.com.
