'Animal Planet' host Jeff Corwin to speak at Southeast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University says "Animal Planet" host and leading conservationist Jeff Corwin will speak April 10, closing out the 2012-2013 Speakers Series.

 

Corwin’s presentation, “Tales from the Field with Jeff Corwin,” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Show Me Center. The show will feature several exotic animals, most of which are reptiles and snakes.

A passionate supporter of the environment, Corwin has been working for the conservation of endangered species and delicate ecosystems around the world for nearly three decades. An Emmy Award-winning television host, Corwin is best known for hosting “Animal Planet's” immensely popular “Jeff Corwin Experience,” which reaches a multitude of viewers in the United States and is viewed in more than 70 countries. Now the host of ABC’s Saturday morning series “Ocean Mysteries,” Corwin leads the weekly undersea adventure in conjunction with the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the addition of Kim Voelker as Membership Development Specialist.

Voelker will work with membership of the Chamber to maintain quality programs and services offered.

­“As a former member and chair of the Chamber Ambassadors Committee, Kim already understands the mission of the Cape Chamber,” said John Mehner, Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “We are fortunate to have someone with Kim’s strengths and skills to join our team.”

Voelker’s work history includes over 10 years in the field of banking and most recently fundraising in the non-profit sector. Through her previous employers, Voelker brings a solid background in relationship building, experience in management, sales and training. She previously worked with United Way of Southeast Missouri and Montgomery Bank.

Sterling Douglas will be at the Hastings in Cape Girardeau from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau Guardsmen nominate their employers for Patriot award in recognition of their extraordinary support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserves.

For Spc. David Vaughn and his wife, Tricia, the support they receive is more than just helpful, it’s life saving. 

Vaughn is currently deployed with the 1138th Engineer Sapper Company in Afghanistan conducting route clearance missions since September 2012.

Every day he’s gone it’s emotionally difficult for himself and Tricia with their two children, Logan, 6, and Caitlin, 4.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center is pleased to welcome Lauren Keith Heuring and Danielle Liley to the family. 

Heuring has joined the Referral Services team at Saint Francis as a referral services manager She will join the other referral services managers in cultivating positive relationships with area referring physicians by addressing issues, answering questions and providing timely information about new services and technology available at the Medical Center.

Heuring graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has extensive experience in broadcasting and advertising, as a news anchor for KFVS12 since 2004. Her major service line responsibilities will be primary care, neurosciences and surgery.

Otrhopedic surgeon, board member retires after 35 years

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)  – Saint Francis Medical Center announces that after 35 years of dedicated practice, Michael C. Trueblood, MD, orthopedic surgeon and Saint Francis Board member, has elected to retire.

“For decades, Trueblood served this Medical Center and the entire Cape Girardeau community with skill and grace,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Francis. “We are incredibly proud of his many accomplishments as a physician and board member, and we wish him well with his future endeavors.”

In 1978, after completing his medical degree, internship and residency at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. – in addition to a special projects residency in kinesiology at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, Calif. – Trueblood moved to Cape Girardeau and started his career as an orthopedic surgeon at Saint Francis.

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - A baby boy was born March 13, 2013 at 3:13 p.m. at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Boone Cole Ditto weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. The delivering physician was Dr. Paul Clarke, obstetrician/gynecologist on staff at Saint Francis.

His parents, Nicole Kirby and Bryan Ditto are from East Prairie, Mo.
