Galati at Saint Francis certified by MD Anderson Cancer Network

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center announced that urologist Vincenzo Galati, DO, FACS, has been certified by MD Anderson Cancer Network™ through the Medical Center.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is the top cancer hospital according to U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospital” survey.

Experts there have developed disease-specific guidelines for cancer treatment, cancer prevention, early detection and follow-up care that allow MD Anderson-certified physicians to bring new hope and knowledge to local cancer patients.

Galati joins 26 other MD Anderson-certified physicians fighting cancer at the Medical Center’s Cancer Institute.

HAVCO employees raise over $2,000 for Dig for Life program

SCOTT CITY, MO (KFVS) - Employees at HAVCO Wood Products, LLC, in Scott City, Mo., raised $2,217 for Dig for Life.

Dig for Life is a Saint Francis Medical Center program that provides free mammography screenings for women who otherwise could not afford them.

Nearly 450 employees at the HAVCO locations in Scott City and Vonore, Tenn., bought pink shirts in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and selected Dig for Life as the fundraising recipient.

Through Dig for Life donors, Saint Francis provides more than 400 free mammograms to local women each year, and has provided more than 2,000 free mammograms since the program began in 2000.

New Human Resource Coordinator named at Cape Public Schools

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau Public Schools has named Cynthia Paul as the new Human Resource Coordinator.

Paul has two Bachelor Degrees; one from Southeast Missouri State University in Human Environmental Studies, and a second one in Human Resource Management from University of Phoenix. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management from University of Phoenix.

She has a total of 26 years of HR experience. She was previously employed as HR Coordinator at Southern California Water Company in San Dimas, Calif., and more recently, as HR Coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University.  She is the mother of two children; one is serving in the U.S. Air Force and another is employed at National Asset Recovery Services in Cape Girardeau. She has three grandchildren. Paul enjoys performing community service and is a 4-H leader.

Perryville hospital announces new oncologist, hematologist

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center and Perry County Memorial Hospital announced Wednesday, January 16 that Justin D. Floyd, DO, medical oncologist and hematologist, will begin seeing patients at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville on January 17.

Floyd’s arrival gives Perryville’s cancer patients increased access to the technological advances and clinical expertise of the oncology team at Perry County. To help the hospital better serve the community, Floyd’s services will include outpatient consultations regarding hematologic and oncologic disorders, as well as the administration of chemotherapy, in addition to continuing to see patients at Saint Francis.

(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Revenue is cautioning all seniors and disabled Missourians to be aware of possible scams involving the filing of a Property Tax Credit claim.

According to the department, scams involving the PTC, formerly known as the Circuit Breaker Tax Credit, frequently target seniors and the disabled. Scam artists often pose as trustworthy helpers and can be friends, family members, or caregivers. Listed below are some tips and reminders to help citizens protect themselves from potential fraud.

2 Sikeston pilots to be honored by Air Evac

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Two Sikeston pilots will be honored with Flight Wings presentations on Wednesday, January 16 by Air Evac Lifeteam President Seth Myers.

The pilots being honored include: George Smith, who has flown 2,000 missions and Fred Finnell, who has flown 3,000 missions.

Air Evac Lifeteam is a rural-based air ambulance service providing emergency medical transport from accident scenes to hospitals and trauma centers, as well as transfers between hospitals.

The presentations will start at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cape Airport Restaurant, 860 Rush H. Limbaugh Jr. Memorial Drive in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Cape Girardeau hospital names new regional vice presient

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A Cape Girardeau hospital announced Thursday they have named a Vice President of Regional Operations.

SoutheastHEALTH President and CEO Wayne Smith announced that Paula Harris will be the new vice president. Harris most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Health Care Management Services headquartered in Poplar Bluff.

She will assume her role following the Jan. 1 acquisition of Advanced by SoutheastHEALTH. Her background includes clinical experience in acute, skilled, ambulatory and home care settings. Harris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Union University in Jackson, Tenn. and a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from NOVA Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Harris served as Advanced’s CEO five years.
