Friends of the Parks day in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The parks and recreation department in Cape Girardeau will host their 26th annual Friends of the Parks Day on Saturday, April 16.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and would be an opportunity for individuals and groups to clean up Cape Girardeau's parks.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Capaha Park.

First Baptist Church of Jackson presents annual Easter pageant

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - The First Baptist Church will present their Easter pageant April 14-17.

This year the pageant is called "Awakening: Growing in Grace and Knowledge." It will include a cast of over 125 members and live animals that will act out the life of Jesus Christ.

2011 Easter pageant schedule includes:

  • Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the pageant are free but seating is limited.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A schedule of Red Cross blood drives in the county is available.

  • April 14- Southeast Missouri Hospital, 1701 Lacey Street, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • April 15- St. Paul Lutheran Church, 223 West Adams, Jackson, Mo. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • April 18- Notre Dame High School, 265 Notre Dame Drive, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • April 18- Immaculate Conception Catholic School, 300 South Hope, Jackson, Mo. from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The American Red Cross is teaming up with NASCAR for the fourth year of Red Cross Racing, a donor rewards program designed to increase the number of donors and the number of times they donate.

Rewards members get points for different activitis like donating blood and/or platelets and recruiting other blood donors to join.

Saint Francis Medical Center, student athletes team up for Dig for Life

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center will be partnering with high school and college athletes to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

The money raised will go to the Dig for Life campaign that provides free mammograms to women who cannot afford them.

On April 14, Notre Dame High School will launch Athletes for Life, an adaptation of Dig for Life. The Notre Dame Bulldog baseball team will sponsor a Pink Out Game with Charleston High School where students will sell Notre Dame Athletes for Life t-shirts and baseball hats to raise money.They will also collect donations at the gate and during the fifth inning stretch.

The pre-game events start at 5:45 p.m.

Saint Francis Medical Center to host two digestive health events

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The new Center for Digestive Diseases at Saint Francis Medical Center will host two digestive health events on Friday, April 15.

The events will be the second annual Colon Cancer Awareness event from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Center for Digestive Diseases open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Both events will be at 28 South Mount Auburn Road.

Co-hosted by the American Cancer Society, the Colon Cancer Awareness event will include:

  • The EPIC Colon (Early detection and Prevention Inflatable Colon) which is a large walk-through replica of a human colon than simulates healthy tissue, colorectal disease, polyps and shares prevention tips, symptoms and treatment options.
  • Questionnaires that can determine you risk for colon cancer.

Saint Francis Medical Center names new patient care manager

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Saint Francis Medical Center announced today they named a new patient care manager of Orthopedic Services.

Tammy Hahn-Brown, R.N., MSN, ONC, CS-ANP will be the new care manager and will report to Gerry Salter, MBA, PT, ATC and CSCS service line director of Orthopedics.

Hahn-Brown came to Saint Francis as a technician in the Orthopedics Unit in 1994. She received her Registered Nursing degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Webster University. She attended Vanderbilt University for her master's degree in nursing and nurse practioner degree.

Businesses, members of Citizens Electric could benefit from Co-op Connections card

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Citizens Electric Corporation will be launching a member benefits initiative that offers discounts at local businesses.

All CEC members will get a Co-op Connections card in the mail in mid-May. Members can use the card to receive discounts at local businesses along with thousands of nationwide businesses.

Businesses can benefit from the card too, CEC will be promoting them in their publications and on their website.

There is no fee for members or businesses using the card. Participating businesses will have a sticker with the Co-op connections logo on their door or window.

The first 100 businesses to enroll will be entered in a drawing to win $500.

An app for iPhones and iPads will also be available.
