American Legion riders hang wreaths at county cemeteries

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - About a dozen American Legion Riders from the Cape Girardeau Chapter hung wreaths at local cemeteries on Sunday.

They visited six area cemeteries in Jackson and Cape Girardeau for the third year in a row and hung a 4' wreath at each of the entrances.

"The veterans that fought for us, who are buried in local cemeteries,  need to be recognized too," said  Leo McElrath IV, Director of Cape Girardeau American Legion Riders. "The wreaths at the entrance of these cemeteries are for people to know that their loved ones are remembered as well."

They hung wreaths in Jackson at the Jackson Cemetery and Russell Heights Cemetery. In Cape Girardeau, wreaths were hung at Cape County Memorial Cemetery, New Lorimer Cemetery, Old Lorimer Cemetery and St. Mary's Cemetery.

City of Cape authorizes new pump station generator

CAPE GIRARDEAU (KFVS) - The City of Cape Girardeau recently authorized a new generator for backup power at the Merriweather Pump Station.

Several pumping stations along Main Street at Mill and Merriweather streets take in storm water from the city and pump it into the river. Without these pumping stations, certain eastern parts of the city would flood.

Workers will be pouring concrete for the project soon and work is expected to be completed by the spring rain season.
