Annual auction to benefit Old Town Cape has 2 new sponsors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A packed house, local donations, and two big sponsors could mean big things for downtown Cape Girardeau.

The Annual Charles L. Hutson Auction to benefit Old Town Cape is scheduled for tonight.

The event becomes even bigger, old town's director says, because of two big, new sponsors Southeast Missouri State and Isle of Capri.

Marla Mills says Isle of Capri getting involved now is a great sign of things to come.

“I think it sends a great message they are partnering now before the casino opens before they have any money coming in to that business,” said Mills. “So, I think it sends the message that they want to help improve the community and help downtown. They specifically came to us and asked us to partner with them on this concert and combining the auction with it.

Sewer line smoke test in Cape Girardeau

Sewer line smoke test in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The city of Cape Girardeau has announced they will be testing sewer lines starting on Friday, August 5.

They say harmless smoke will be pumped through the sanitary sewer lines near the Southeast Missouri State University campus to identify leaks and defects starting on August 5 and finishing on in about 10 to 14 days.

According to the city, people and animals will not be harmed by the smoke. No smoke should enter if all sewer piping for a building is properly connected and in good, working condition.

To reduce the chance smoke will enter your home or business briefly run water from all fixtures, including in floor drains, to ensure that all traps are full. If smoke does enter your building it will quickly dissipate.
