MoDOT to hold two-day realty sales event

MoDOT to hold two-day realty sales event

(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation's Southeast District will hold a two-day sales event in an attempt to sell its former maintenance lots in Brazeau, Delta, Marquand, Moody, Manes and Success.

MoDOT says the properties are part of the Department's Realty to Roads program.

"These facilities are no longer needed to build, improve or maintain Missouri's highway system," said Right of Way Manager Sherry Glastetter. "Selling these properties through Realty to Roads benefits taxpayers because the funds generated are dedicated to roadway improvements."

The properties will be sold through live, on-site auctions. Auctions for the Brazeau, Delta and Marquand facilities will be held on Monday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

Auctions for the Moody, Manes and Success facilities will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

The tour, sponsored by Realty Executives and Banterra Bank, will run from 4 to 7 p.m. and will showcase seven properties.

The tour was organized as a way to highlight properties available for lease or purchase in the downtown area.

"We want people to know that there are great opportunities in downtown," said Stan Penn, chair of the Old Town Cape Economic Restructuring committee. "It is a way to reach some people who may not otherwise have the chance to see these buildings and talk about their potential. We want people to consider downtown for business and investment."

More than 100 year old building to be torn down in Cape

More than 100 year old building to be torn down in Cape

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - More changes are coming to downtown Cape Girardeau with demolition of more than 100 year old building.

A chain link fence already surrounds the empty structure in the 500 block of Broadway.

Trinity Lutheran Church owns the building.

Church Council President Dr. Ron Lessmann says the church board voted to take it down.

The church's pastor says the ultimate goal will be to add to the improvements already planned downtown.

"We'll probably either look into a green space area with benches.  Some people have mentioned parking," said Pastor Douglas Breite.  "The green space would be a way to enhance the Broadway corridor.  We believe that we're making an improvement to the area.  Also give us more of a presence on Broadway as well."

There is no word on exactly when the building will come down, but the demolition permit is good until late December.
