Southeast Missouri Food Bank receives $2,000 grant

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Southeast Missouri Food Bank has received a $2,000 grant.

According to the Food Bank, he grant is part of the Restaurant Community Grants program from the Darden Foundation.

The grants program is in its second year. The grant helps each Darden-owned restaurant help award a $1,000 grant to support local community programs, according to the Food Bank.

The donation will support Southeast Missouri Food Bank’s BackPacks For Friday program to Cape Girardeau schools.

“The support from our local Darden partners, Olive Garden and Red Lobster, has been incredible,” said Karen Green, Southeast Missouri Food Bank’s Executive Director “not only do they financially support the program, but throughout the year employees volunteer their time to help further the Food Bank’s mission.”

Pizza place, firefighters team up for Fire Prevention Week

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - If you order pizza in Cape Girardeau this week and have working smoke detectors, your dinner could be free.

Domino’s Pizza and the Cape Girardeau Fire Department are teaming up during Fire Prevention Week to deliver pizzas aboard a fire truck to customers of both the North Sprigg Street and Kingshighway stores. Firefighters will check customers’ smoke detectors. If all smoke detectors in the home are working, the customer’s pizza will be free, compliments of Domino’s Pizza.

If necessary, firefighters will replace batteries and leave customers with detectors in working order.

The Fire Department will assist with select pizza delivery from 4 to 8 p.m., on Oct. 9 through 11.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Coming up Thursday, September 20 you can eat anytime between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. at Bob Evans in Cape Girardeau to benefit the Discovery Playhouse.

Make sure to print and take the flyer pictured above and Bob Evans will donate 15 percent of your sale to Discovery Playhouse.

Smoke shuts down Burger King in Jackson

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - An electrical issue shut down the Burger King in Jackson Wednesday morning.

The manager at the restaurant on East Jackson Boulevard says a slight electrical issue caused smoke in the building.

The fire department was able to take care of the situation.

The Burger King closed down for a few hours.  As soon as the Cape Girardeau County Health Department gives the OK, it will reopen.

Local Burger Kings raises almost $11,000 for American Red Cross

Local Burger Kings raises almost $11,000 for American Red Cross

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The American Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter has received a check for $10,756.13 from local Burger Kings.

On June 28, 20 local Burger Kings in Southeast Missouri hosted American Red Cross Day and donated 10 percent of sales from that day to the red cross.

“Because of the generosity and support of our local Burger Kings those in Southeast Missouri can get the short term relief they need in the aftermath of a disaster, such as the recent flooding, violent storms or home fires” said Cheryl Klueppel, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter.

Burger King has been recognized as a Hero for the American Red Cross for this donation.

Grand opening celebration for Cafe Soupe

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cafe Soupe's grand opening celebration will be Friday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The grand opening will start with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. and a food sampling afterwards until 6 p.m.

The restaurant is located in City Centre or what used to be the Rust & Martin building at 2502 Tanner Drive. It will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The menu will feature soups, salads, sandwiches and a variety of drinks including coffee drinks, fountain soda, packaged beverages, fruit infused water and a limited selection of wine and beer.
