New head baseball coach at SEMO named

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt named Steve Bieser the head baseball coach at Southeast Missouri State University on Wednesday.

Bieser served as the Redhawks interim head coach since July 30, 2012.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Plaza by Ray’s was the site of the annual Cape Central High School All Sports Athletic Banquet last week where more than 300 athletes, parents and boosters gathered.

Pictured above, left to right, are Bill Leighton, winner of the Lou Muegge Award for Male Athlete of the Year; Alayah Cooper-Johnson, recipient of the Darla Pannier Scholarship; and Chleo LeGrand, winner of the Darla Pannier Award for Female Athlete of the Year.

CHS: Anderson to attend Union University on a soccer athletic scholarship

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Central High School’s Tyler Anderson has signed a letter of intent to attend Union University, in Jackson, Tennessee on a soccer scholarship.

He is a three year varsity soccer starter for CHS.

Anderson scored five goals and earned eight assists throughout his career as a back at CHS. He was the team captain in 2012 and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention.

“Tyler provided excellent leadership and was a solid back field player for us.  We wish him the best as a student athlete at the next level,” said Coach Martin. 

Anderson plans to major in pharmacy at Union.

Cape Central's Vinson to attend Three Rivers on athletic scholarship

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Cape Central basketball player Chelsea Vinson will attend Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff on an athletic scholarship.

“Chelsea is a tremendous asset to her team,” said Cape Central Head Coach Sherri Shirrell.

Vinson had earned the following awards in her junior year: All-Conference 1st team, All-District 1st team, All-tourney team for St. Francis Holiday Classic, Tiger Teammate (team voted),  MVP (team voted), TOP FT%, Top Scorer and Top Rebounder. 

“We’re wishing her the best of luck at Three Rivers,” Coach Shirrell concluded.

Cape Central’s Williams signs letter of intent with Webster University

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Central volleyball player Katie Williams has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Webster University.

“Katie has been a vital part of the volleyball program throughout her four years at CHS. Her hard work and dedication has always been apparent, leading by example both on and off the court,” said Coach Broshuis.  “Her energy and passion for the game will be missed next year.  We wish her the best of luck as she continues her athletic career at Webster.”

According to Cape Central, during the 67 games she played in her senior year at Cape Central High School, Williams accrued 30 matches, 149 kills, 2.22 kills per Game, 39 hitting errors, and 344 total hitting attempts.  She also had 6 assists, 18 aces, 92 digs, 43 solo blocks and 49 total blocks.

Additional honors include: 2-time All-District, All-Region, B.A. Promotions All-Star, Southeast Missourian and All- Southeast Region Conference Team member.

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - For the second year, Missouri State Parks is teaming up with The North Face’s Explore Your Parks Program to teach families how to have an enjoyable and safe camping experience with its Learn2 Camp program.

The program provides expert answers and guidance to families who want to go camping but are uncertain how and what equipment is needed.
