Rte. 61 Ramsey Creek Bridge to be replaced

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Crews will be working to replace the Route 61 bridge over Ramsey Creek starting Tuesday, May 10.

Five 130 foot bridge beams will be taken to the site on southbound Kingshighway from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Southbound Route 61/Kingshighway will be closed during construction from Silver Springs South to Route 74 West.

The project is expected to be finished in mid-July.

According to Southeast Regional Field Engineer Andy Meyer, the southbound Fruitland rest area will be closed from 12 p.m. on May 9 to 12 p.m. on May 10 because that is where the beams will arrive.

Meyer said the closure is necessary because of the size and number of beams needed to be transported.

City works on final touches to new bike route system

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The city of Cape Girardeau is putting the final touches on the bike route system proposal after receiving input from several residents.

Some of the routes were removed from the original proposal after residents reported concern over the loss of parking. The removed roads, according to the city, include Perryville Road, Cape Rock Drive and a section of Hopper Road.

The proposal was also modified to not use traditional striping and instead use shared use arrows, or sharrows. The traditional striping would not allow parking on the route. The city has a map showing the new routes and locations of striping and sharrows.

The city said the sharrows will be used on sections of Lexington Avenue, Bertling Street, Frederick Street, Hopper Road and Independence Street.
