CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Girardot Center for Youth is growing and tending their own garden this year.

Cassie Hill with the center says the boys their are responsible for taking care of the garden with staff supervision. She says they are hoping to prepare and can the vegetables grown in the garden. They plan to use some of the produce and sell the rest to help fund their "Adopt a Family" campaign they do every year.

Last year, Hill says they were able to adopt six families by doing various fundraisers and this year they are hoping to increase that number.

In the past, the center has helped at the community garden. This is the first year they have done one on their own.
